Have you ever looked in the mirror and wanted to change something about yourself? Your hair may not be the colour you want, or your skin is too pale or pimpled. You may not look the way magazine models look. Self image at times can be quite distorted and not the way our friends or family really view us. Most people are much harder on themselves than they need to be. This story is about a girl called Emily who looks in the mirror and describes herself quite differently to those close to her. It is a story that teaches children we are all beautiful and that we need to love ourselves and throw out the mirror. Beauty is much more than what's outside on the skin. It's what lies within.

'As 6 and 8 year olds, my two daughters spend a lot of time looking in the mirror, using makeup. While this is just play at the moment I think it is important for them to develop a love of themselves and an ability to accept themselves just the way they are as they grow up. This is a great story that all children-girls and boys should read. None of us should compare the way we look to others.
